Cowan House Super Classic

Congratulations to Burry Stander who won the Cowan House Super Classic 40km race last Sunday in a great time of 1h52.  Congratulations are also due to James Reid who came 1st in the junior mens category in a time of 1h55.  He was also 4th home overall.  Natashka Mowat was 1st woman home in her category and also 2nd woman home overall.  The first woman was only 29 seconds ahead of her. Well done Natashka you are riding like a machine.

With the Hill2Hill only a month away you should all be in full training at the moment.  Remember to enter early to avoid disappointment.

This week there will be the normal ride from Dura Cycles at 6:30am with three mountain bikes groups going out.  All you need is a mountain bike, helmet and a bit of fitness in the legs to come and join us.  All welcome.

There is a group doing a three day Pondo Pedal this weekend, starting on Friday morning.  Good Luck guys and one girl (you are brave).  Have a great time.

On the road scene all the best to everyone doing the Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge in Durban this weekend.

Raising funds for Pro Deo Care Group

Mark Bolton will be joining Bennie Kruger and his Cycling friends to complete the 860 km trip from Johannesburg to Margate in KZN to raise money for the Pro Deo Care Group.

To survive the Pro Deo Care Group derives its funds from projects like the Cycling Tour and donations made by people attending the clinics, but the costs of goods and apparatus required is escalating yearly. Money raised has to be well managed and purchasing of wheelchairs, pulpit walkers, commodes, bath chairs, foot spa’s, hearing aids, oxygen cylinders, special toilet seats, special mattresses and blood pressure apparatus is done with care so that funds are not used unnecessarily. Being elderly can, as we have said, be lonely and these people can feel that they have been forgotten.

Those wanting to give a donation:

Pro-Deo just around the corner

Well done to Nicola Freitas, she came first in her category at the Tour De Kranz 45km last weekend coming home in a time of 2h55min.  Nick Porteous came 9th overall in a time of 2h02min, well done.

The 50km ride from Dura Cycles last Saturday was toughly enjoyed by all who rode.  Well done guys and girls.

With the Pro-Deo just around the corner all the roadies doing the ride are getting some good time in the saddle and really training hard.  The Pro-Deo is a 4 day ride from Johannesburg to Margate and takes place at the beginning of October.  They raise money for the Pro-Deo Care Group who assist people with cancer.

This Thursday will be time trials starting at 4:15pm from the Uvongo Fishing Pier.  Saturday we will have three Mountain bike groups going out from Dura Cycles starting at 6:30am.

Good luck to all who are doing the Cowan House Super Classic this coming weekend.

Ilovo Eston MTB Challenge

With a huge turn out at this years Ilovo Eston MTB Challenge they are now rated the biggest one day MTB Race in SA. Go KZN MTBiking.

Well done to all Bundu Bashers who took part. We had a good number of riders and some impressive finishing times.

In the ladys Half Marathon Hayley Smith of team Bell crossed the line in 1st place, followed by Nicola Freitas of team Dura Cycles in 2nd. Evan Van Der Spuy had an unlucky day on the bike with bike problems after a wipeout and ended up finishing 4th.

In the Marathon, James Reid was the 1st Bundu home, finishing 3rd over all. He is certainly peaking at the right time for World Champs coming up in Canada where I'm sure he will do very well. Candice Neethling came home in 2nd in the ladies with a great tussle for the title with Charise Taylor. Natashka Mowat had a great ride, finishing 3rd in the Vet Ladies.

There will be the normal ride from Dura Cycles this Thursday at 4:15pm.  Saturday we will have three mountain bike groups going out as well as a mountain bike group doing on a longer ride as training for the Hill to Hill.  This longer ride will be around 50km.

Good luck to everyone doing the Tour De Kranz this Saturday.

Have a good week and God Bless.
