PLENTY OF RIDES THIS HOLIDAY

BUNDU BASHERS - (South Coast Fever December 18, 2009)

PLENTY OF RIDES THIS HOLIDAY

The holidays are filled with plenty of rides, but before I begin, congratulations to Candy Neethling for winning the 2009 Urban Rage on Saturday. With some really stiff competition as well as wet, tight-riding conditions, it was no wonder that our mountainbike ladies thrived. Hayley Smith finished fifth overall, making the Super final which, trust me, is no easy task.

With R10 000 up for graps in the ladies race, we all knew some serious racing was ahead. In the mens race, we had a big contingency which made for some great wipeouts and incredible times. It was no joke as the riders with the top 10 times were selected for the Super finals. Fortunately things went my way and I managed to squeeze into 10th place, whcih ment I'd have to be firest off in the Super final. I set a cool time and managed to pull off a sixth place finish, only one second off a podium spot. Big thanks to Max Cluer and his team who put it all together.

RIDE, RIDE AND RIDE SOME MORE

BUNDU BASHERS - (South Coast Fever December 11,2009)

Season is here which means one thing to us local riders - ride, ride and ride some more. Today we will be riding from Dura Cycles at 3.45pm for 4.00pm. We'll ride at a medium pace which should take about tow hours to complete the course. Only one group will be riding. Saturday's ride will be at the famous Clear Water trails at 7.00am. We will have three groups so all are welcome.

Saturday will also be the Urban Rage in Durban. Course designer Jan Man says the course is "Awesome" with very tight rail rides, floating bridges, 180 berms over the water and big drop-offs. With R15 000 up for first place, I'm sure the wipe outs will be furious and the competition sizzling.

Sunday morning's ride will leaves Dura Cycles at 7.00am. We will be meeting up with Bennie and Colin to do around a 70km pedal.

Please diarise 28 December for the Sani Pass ride. If you are keen to join in on the action let me know on 072 272 4330.

God Bless
Jono Downham

BUNDU BASHERS REPRESENT AT OUTSURANCE MTB RACE

BUNDU BASHERS - ( South Coast Fever November 27,2009)

With a fun-filled weekend full of riding, racing, bikes braking, wipeouts and cramping nothing proved too much for our Bundu Basher athletes.
Saturday morning's ride from Dura Cycles was good fun. Happy to have Burry Stander back in the fold as well as his girlfriend Charise, who beat me in the sprint finnish...she was just lucky. With Pete Marshe doing a dive in the river - keep it up, Pete - as well as some new faces, Bron Noyle from Johannesburg tested her legs in the social group and did very well.

Sunday morning was the Outsurance MTB race from Giba to Sun Coast Casino. Bundu Bashers got some great results. Elmo pulled a first in the juniors, followed by brother, Evan, who had crank problems but, nevertheless, rode in with one leg.
Danie Otto also raced very well to beat some big names. It was a tough ride for some - Charles had some unfortunate bike problems - I suppose thats mountain biking for you.
It was good to see Arj Landsberg on the bike. For those that stayed at home, you missed out on a great exploration ride with John and Natashka. Bernardt and I joined up with them and hit the back of the sugar mill. With some huge hills under the belt and John and Natashka still fresh, we saw we were miss-matched, so we opted for the easy route home leaving the Alpe team to do their thing.

This Saturday we'll be riding from Dura Cycles 6.30am. All are welcome.

That's it for the week. Remember to get your ride reviews to me so I can put them in the news.

God Bless Jono

DIARISE DURA CYCLES DATE

The Saturday morning rides have been going well rain and all. Feel free to join us as we cater for all riders. Dont let the rain put you off, it just adds to the challenge and to some, the entertainment. We had a big crowd of riders last Saturday - some of the local lads who are always ready to give it a good burn and some old faces dusting off their bikes after the winter season. Welcome back boys!

To all the Sani 2 Sea racing snakes, we will be starting a training programme for you over December holidays. If you are interested in joining, please give me a call on 072 272 4330 so I can give you the training details.

Please diarise this important date, Thursday the 3rd December 2009, 6.00pm. We will be having a get-together at Dura Cycles where we will be having the privilege of hearing John and Natashka Mowett share their experiences of the recent Trance Alps. This will be followed by a nutrition talk on the products that Herbal Life has to offer. A light finger supper will be served, so for all those interested in coming, please to let me know for catering purposes. We do look forward to having you there.

Tip for the week: Balance is important both on the bike and off the bike! God Bless Jono

BASHERS STILL RULE!

South Coast Fever (July 17,2009)

African Champs saw some of the top riders head to Nelspruit for this year's Championships. As usual our local top athletes took part, and man did they shine!

In their respective age groups we saw Dieter Blom 1st, Fabio Freitus 2nd, Hayely Smith 1st, Candy Neethling with an epic battle slid out in the final stretch whre she was lined up for the win and unfortunately, yet very impresively, got 2nd place. Burry took honors in the under 23 and usual got held up by Africa's elite riders who started five minutes ahead.

Gary Neethling who has really come into his own as this year's racing has gone along, crossed the line in 1st place.

This afternoon will see the usual ride from Dura Cycles at 4pm. Saturday we will be leaving Dura Cycles at 6.30am. All are welcome as there are 3 groups gong out.

Please note that the Karlkloof Super Classic scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.

That's it for this week. Remember that if you have any results or riding infor that you would like to go in this column please contact me at jonod@vodamail.co.za

God Bless
Jono
