Sardine Super Classic 2010


With the weekends festivities over, we can look back to a great weekend of outdoor activities. Ranging from trail running, Multi Sport sports events and last but certainly not least MTBiking. With a host of of great results from our local athletes. Justin Porteous [Future Boy] finishing 3rd overall in the Time Freight Multi sport event. Burry Stander winning the 45km in an unbelievable time of 1hr41min just over 3mins on 2nd place Craig Paul. The next Bundu Basher to cross the line was Evan Van Der Spuy in 10th overall and 1st in his age group, followed closely by Nick Porteous in a time of 1hr 55min. In the ladies Race Charise Taylor crossed the line in 1st place followed by Candice Neethling in 2nd. Hayley Smith was 4th overall and 1st in her age group followed by Nicola Freitas in 2nd in her age group. Danie Otto finished 3rd Vet,Nataschka Mowat crossed the line in 1st place in Vet ladies. Charles Stander was the 1st Masters man home with Nicky Smith coming home in 3rd in the masters.Grand Masters was won by none other than John Mowat. Dave Kinsey finished 3rd Grand Masters which was an excellent result considering that this was his first 45km race.

This Thursday will be a ride leaving Dura Cycles at 3pm.We will ride medium/fast pace so feel free to come along. Saturday morning ride leaving Dura Cycles 6:30am.With 4 groups on the MTBikes and 2 road groups, all are welcome.


This Sunday is the Glengary MTB race.With a new track and great single track riding, would be a good race to attend.

SA XC Cup Series

The final leg of the SA XC Cup Series was held last weekend in Nelspriet. With some of our local riders it was no question that they had to attend the race to defend there podium positions. With beautiful conditions and a tough technical track. It was no doubt that the racing was going to be tougher than ever. With an impressive result from our ladies section, Haley Smith 1st, Candice Neethling 1st, as well as in the men's section, Evan Van Der Spuy had an epic challenge and ended up 2nd, James Ried 1st. Burry Stander dominated his class to finish over 2mins ahead of second place even with having some technical problems that cost him over 2 mins in the pits. Gary Neethling had an great race finishing in 2nd in Vet B. Moving closer to home,the Howick Super Classic was held last Sunday, Brandon Venter Even after taking a heavy fall landing on his head managed a second in his age Category.

What's ahead for this week. Thursday afternoon ride will be cancelled due to the Nuform Dura Cycles Sardine Super classic tribal ride taking place Thursday morning.

For those that are keen to test there night riding skill feel free to come along to the Pont in Port Edward at 6pm Friday for what is fast becoming one of KZNs best night rides.

Saturday morning outride from Dura Cycles will be cancelled, so pull in to the Pont for a morning trail Run. With distances of 8/16km there is fun for everyone. During the course of the day there will be a Time Freight Multi Sport race hosted by Max Cluer as well as great entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Sundays main race will kick off at 9am. There are 3 distances 10/25/45 kms. All are welcome to attend.  You do have the opportunity to enter on the day.

2 Weeks until the Nuform Dura Cycles Sardine Super Classic

With only two weeks to go until the Nuform Dura cycles Sardine Super Classic. Excitement is mounting amongst the riders. This event will be offering a host of different events from Thursdays Trail Ride With Jan Man, Friday Night Ride Through Clear Water Trails. Saturday Mornings Trail Run, Saturday afternoons Time Freight Multi Sport which so happens to be the first on the coast. The weekends events climaxing with the Mountain Biking on the Sunday morning.  Its going to be a great day fulled with awesome riding, nature walks for the bird watches and nature lovers. The event will have three distances which will cater for all abilities, with a 10km Fun Ride, 25km intermediate and the Classic 45km ride. The event has been Running for 9 years and has grown to become one of the favorites for many.

This Thursday there will be no Dura Cycles outride as most of the athletes will be attending the last of the SA National XC Races. Good luck to everyone taking part.

Please make note that the Saturday morning outride will meeting in the Shelly Center under cover parking at 6:30am for a ride with a difference. All are welcome. Bring some cash for Breakfast at Mojo's for after the ride.

Weekend full of great events


Last weekend was full of great MTB events and as usual we had some great results from our local talent.  Well done to Hayley Smith 1st, Brandon Venter 2nd, Natashka Mowet 2nd, Nicky Smith 6th in there respective age groups.

Saturday morning out ride from Dura cycles was a rather chilly affair but as usual turned out a beautiful ride with some impressive wipe outs. No names mentioned. So Charise, hows the Finger?

Sunday afternoon saw a group of riders hitting the tribal out behind Lake Eland.  With gary Neethling showing us the way in fine form we new it was going to be one challenging ride.  Evan Vander Spuy showed the Dura Cycles team as well as Justin Futurelife Porteous how its done on the tough stuff,  Jamie Steadman showed us on a number of occasions how its done with cleat pedals, taking a dive on several occasions.  After 3hours of tough riding we headed home ending the ride on Bunge's Ridge.  This is where the two wipe outs of the day happened.  With Gary Neethling High siding to fall from the top of the ridge at least 2 metres,was Priceless.  Lawrance Showed us how to tuck and role on the same opstical.  Well done Boys.

This Thursday we will leave Dura Cycles 4pm sharp for an 1 hour medium pace ride.  Saturday Morning 6:30am ride leaving Dura Cycles.  With 4 groups on the MTBikes and 2 groups on the Road.  All are welcome.

Great Riding from River Bend Croc Farm

We had great riding last Saturday from River Bend Croc Farm. Thanks to Eric and Howard for organising.

This thursday we will be having the Time Trail. So for those keen to test there legs or try better there times be at the Uvongo Pier between 4:15pm and 5pm to set your lap time. Elmo Van Der Spuy still holds the quickest time. Any Challenges?

SA Cup Race in Gorge

Last weekends riding was all out.  With an SA cup race in Gorge were our Bundu racing snakes dominated.  Evan Van Der spuy Has officially been crowned SA champ in his age category.  He has shown just how strong our coast riders are.  Well done Evan.  Other good results came from Gary Neethling and Charles Stander and Nick Porteous.

Last friday a bunch of local road riders headed out on the annual Gabran Road tour.  The ride which consisted of 3 days went from Northern Drakensberg down to Hillcrest.  Team leader Bennie Kruger [General] lead his team through the 3 days safe and sound.  Well done to everyone who took part in this great event.

This Thursdays ride will be leaving Dura Cycles at 4:15pm.  Medium pace.
This Saturday we will not be having the out ride from Dura Cycles but rather we will be meeting at the Riverbend Croc Farm at 6:30am for our usual 4 group outride.  There will be 2 road groups heading out.

This sunday is the very popular Greytown MTB festival.  So get your entries in.

Karkloof Cycling Festival


Karkloof Cycling festival took place last week.  With a great turnout for the weekend the racing was extreme.
To name all our results and podium finishes would take up the article I'll just congratulate everyone on a super weekends racing.  Special mention of Burry, Evan, Hayley, James, Candy all having super race in the different events.

This Thursday is the TIME TRIAL.  Happening at the Uvongo Pier. Times will be recorded between 4:15pm till 5pm so no excuses for those who work.  Both road and MTB are welcome.


Saturday morning outride will leave Dura Cycles at 6:30am.  4MTB groups and 2 road groups.  


Good luck to Bennie and co for the Gabran taking place this weekend.  Thanks to Fever for the loan of the Fever Car.

KZN MTB XC Champs


With a weekend full of great racing.  Bundu Bashers can once again be proud of our athletes.
KZN MTB XC Champs held in PMB last sunday saw our riders dominate the podium.  Brandon Venter 3rd, Josh Kuhn 6th, Evan Van Der spuy 4th, James Reid 1st, Darryn Perky Purtell 1st [nice one D], Hayley Smith 1st, Nicola Freitas 2nd, Candy Neethling 1st, Gary Neethling 3rd.
The Tour Durban was held last weekend.  With perfect weather, lovely tracks and tons of people our results were good.  The MTB was held on saturday, with Nick Porteous having a super race to finish 8th over all in the marathon.  In the half Marathon Mariza Viljoen took first place in her age category followed by Mr Mike Bennison also clocking a good time.  Sunday was the big one.With so many of our riders suffering with Flu only a small number took to the tar.  With the first local home in a time of 2:48 CJ Dressing.  Our First Lady home Heather Malan in a time of 3:08.  Well done to all our locals who took on this weekends races.
A special mention to all our brave athletes who tackled the JHB2c.  Eric/Howard. Roeloff/Freek and top of the pops Axel/Danie.  Well done Guys.  You have done Bundu Bashers proud.  Last week thursday's Time trial was a huge success.With Elmo Van Der Spuy setting the fastest time.its going to be interesting to see how long he can hold that record for.  Keep an eye for when the next Time Trial will take place.
